Human empathy is at rock bottom. Nearly gone. The fact that so many people feel nothing while a population suffers the consequences of genocide is a clear sign we’ve hit moral collapse. It’s not an exaggeration to say that with the loss of human values, we’ve lost the very meaning of being. When we devalue the lives of others, we devalue our own.
It’s hard to find even a minimum of empathy. We’ve become detached from reality—both as a society and as individuals. We’re overwhelmed by distractions that keep us from seeing what truly matters.
I want to emphasize those caught between a rock and a hard place when speaking out about the genocide Israel is carrying out against the Palestinian people. Artists, elite athletes, and public figures often sign highly restrictive contracts with their sponsors. These typically forbid them from expressing opinions on political issues, conflicts—and, it seems, even genocides. Breaking such clauses can lead to contract termination and hefty penalties.
That’s why it’s rare to see athletes speak out, even when they’re silently screaming inside. They risk retaliation—not just from brands but also from public backlash.
Sponsors rule. Among the many clauses in these contracts, none seem to support human rights. This isn’t about flags. It’s about human lives. So what values are culture and sport supposed to bring? We need consistency in upholding humanitarian principles. We live in a world corrupted by materialism and deeply lacking in fundamental values.
Some sports-based platforms offer athletes a collective voice. Legal organizations like Palestine Legal (US) and the ACLU (American Civil Liberties Union) offer protection when expressions are punished by universities, clubs, or repressive laws.
As long as we value profit over human rights, economic interests will crush us all.
Which side of history do you want to be on?
The future will judge our silences. If you can’t speak alone, speak together. Break the censorship. Choose life.
