The Global Sumud Flotilla is now very close to the coast of Gaza. It is accompanied by a Spanish Navy frigate, a rescue vessel, and another Turkish Navy frigate. Greece has provided support in its waters, while Italy, which had also deployed a frigate in recent days, has already turned back today before reaching the critical area where the Flotilla had previously suffered attacks and the kidnapping of its participants by Israel. Another display of political cowardice, moral exemption, and the Italian government’s utter lack of responsibility. Yet another example of Europe’s shameful attitude towards a criminal state that knows no limits when it comes to violating international law.
I feel deep concern for the Palestinians. The attacks on the population of Gaza by the army of the genocidal State of Israel have only intensified in recent days. Social pressure has also been building across much of the world and, as a result, governments have begun to take some measures against Israel. Unfortunately, Europe’s responses are, as of now, timid and insufficient. There is no determination to enforce a total blockade against a genocidal state that still enjoys the privilege of being a partner of Europe. Europe, how rotten you are.
I also worry for the members of the Flotilla. They give their heart, their soul, and their very lives. I still cannot understand how some people continue to criticize them. Perhaps out of ignorance. Perhaps out of malice. Thanks to the activists of the Global Sumud Flotilla, awareness of the genocide has spread worldwide. Everyone is talking about it. Thanks to this movement of courageous, responsible, and humane people, hope has been generated through a shared struggle to avoid falling into the trap of becoming accomplices in the disappearance of a people, a culture, and in the irreversible loss of the fight to recover fundamental values.
The Global Sumud Flotilla has brought a breath of hope to those who have lost everything. Everything, except their humanity—the most precious treasure, one that the West no longer seems to recognize. May we soon witness the image of these ships full of love and humanity reaching the coast of Gaza. May all their crew members embrace the survivors of a massacre that does not stop. Inshallah.
