The Global Strike for Gaza is an international economic strike, promoted by Humanti Project, which starts today, August 21, and will be repeated every Thursday.
The call demands, as a form of peaceful pressure for governments and companies to demand an immediate ceasefire and the entry of humanitarian aid into Gaza:
- Reduce production: as much as possible, it is not about losing your job.
- Suspend consumption and avoid any economic transaction: Keep some supplies at home and, if possible, avoid large retailers and support small businesses before and after the strike.
- Limit the use of transport: Carpool, walk, bike... In case you have no other choice, buy public transport tickets in advance and plan ahead for fueling your vehicle if you cannot do without it.
The protest calls for a decentralized, recurring, and non-violent mobilization that connects citizens and groups around the world.
The idea of this international strike seems to me a good initiative. Faced with the helplessness of not knowing what to do to help the Palestinians, joining this movement is an opportunity to act together and globally.
Logically, this strike will only have visible consequences if there is massive participation by the world’s population. I have never participated in a movement of this kind. Now there are good reasons to do so.
